Based in Murwillumbah, working the Gold Coast to Lennox Head

Dirt Werks is Luke's owner-operated earthmoving business, based in Murwillumbah NSW 2484. Luke quotes each job himself and is the one on the machine, so the person you explain the job to is the person who digs it. From the Tweed Valley he works north across the Gold Coast, from Coolangatta up to Ormeau, and south through Tweed Heads, the Tweed Coast, Pottsville, Cabarita, Brunswick Heads and Byron Bay to Lennox Head and Ballina.

The service area covers four councils: the City of Gold Coast in Queensland, and Tweed, Byron and Ballina shires in NSW. Each area below has its own page, and every suburb Luke covers has a page of its own with the ground, the access and the local rules. If your suburb isn't listed, text it to Luke on 0488 987 325 and ask. The full list of work is on the earthmoving services page.

Ground and access, hinterland to coast

The Tweed Valley around Murwillumbah is closest to base. On rural blocks Luke does land clearing and rural earthworks, including dams, creek crossings and access tracks, and gravel driveway repairs. NSW groundwater mapping notes from 1997 describe basalt-derived 'chocolate' soils on the plateaus and steeper slopes, usually well drained, with alluvium and estuarine sediments on the floodplain. Steep ground can give way in heavy rain: in the 2022 flood, Tweed Shire Council reported major landslips on Tyalgum Road and Reserve Creek Road.

North of the border, the Gold Coast's beachside strip sits on a narrow barrier sandbar, much of the low land behind it is old wetland turned into canal estates, and the city climbs west into the hinterland ranges. The Gold Coast page covers that ground and the City of Gold Coast rules in more detail.

Toward the coast, the same notes record sand dunes from Point Danger to Cudgen Headland. Whatever the ground, Luke checks Before You Dig plans and potholes by hand before digging near services. For trenching he digs and backfills, and your licensed plumber or electrician lays and connects. Spoil that can't go back in leaves on his tipper for a lawful tip or approved site, with dockets: see soil and rubbish removal.

Further south, Byron Shire Council's planning chapters note the predominantly flat topography of the original Brunswick Heads village, the hilly topography of Ocean Shores and the backdrop of steep hills around Mullumbimby. For a job anywhere from Tyalgum to Ballina, send the suburb, a wide photo, the gate or access, and what has to come in or go out. That lets Luke plan the machine, the tipper loads and the travel.

Fire ant rules also cover soil and machines. Under Biosecurity (Fire Ant) Emergency Order (No. 10) 2026, published 1 September 2026, moving soil, mulch, sand, gravel or earth-moving equipment out of the Murwillumbah or Wardell movement control areas, or out of the NSW infested area within 5 km of detections in Queensland and at Tweed Heads South, must follow set rules. Excavators, loaders and other earth-moving equipment must be cleaned free of soil before they leave. Zones change, so check the current NSW DPIRD zone map first. The council approval guide covers the common approval questions.
